2023 Prelude to the Super Nationals

Let the good times roll – IMCA cars, drivers, fans are Boone Bound for Sept. 4-9 Super Nationals

BOONE, Iowa – There’s no exact number yet but this is guaranteed: The cars – race cars, not the band – are coming to Boone Speedway. Nearly 650 drivers from 27 states and three Canadian provinces are already pre-registered for the 41st annual IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s Sept. 4-9 at Iowa’s Action Track, and the goals of every one of those drivers are to win the most prestigious championship in dirt track racing and have a good time while they’re doing it. “The general format for Super Nationals remains the same. We are still working on little tweaks to make sure that from the time racers pull into the pits and park their hauler or fans get their campers situated, to the time they go home that they have a good time,” said IMCA President Brett Root. “Most people come to Super Nationals to have a good time and that’s what we want, too,” he added. “It’s a great week for us and we want every driver and every fan to have the [Read More]

Off Road Speedway feature wins occur in a variety of ways

By Randy Pospishil sports@norfolkdailynews.com NORFOLK, Neb. (July 29, 2023) – Variety was the operative word for Saturday night’s feature winners at Off Road Speedway. Each of those winners would have had a descriptive story to hash over in any sort of late night, after competition conversation in the pit area before loading up their cars for the journey home. Dylan Schmer, for example, probably felt like he won the IMCA Sunoco Late Models feature more than once after he had to overcome a number of challenges even after producing large leads on multiple occasions. Three cautions, the last two with under eight laps remaining, along with twice catching up to and having to contend with lapped traffic on both the high and low lines, kept challengers within reach. But in the end, Schmer simply had too much speed and power for the rest of the field, using the high line of the track to secure his first win at Off Road Speedway this season. Chase Osborne came from a starting position in the sixth row within [Read More]

Miles scores first career win at Maquoketa

By Jerry Mackey  MAQUOKETA, Iowa (July 22, 2023) – Following a week of no racing as the Jackson County Fairgrounds hosted a large dog competition show the racing action returned on Saturday night with 121 teams putting on an exciting show as the races were hurried along to beat the approaching rain storm. It is always special to see a driver win his first-ever main event and on Saturday night that was the case in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Jordan Miles, one of the many racing Miles brothers and one of three Miles’ that were racing Saturday night scored his first of what will be many feature wins. Miles held off the one of the best in Hobby Stock racing, Randy LaMar in scoring the win. The 25-lap IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature saw veteran driver Andy Nezworski drive his no. 7 very patiently to the front from his eighth position start and overtake Jaden Fryer late in the main to go on and score the win. Fryer had a strong run in taking [Read More]

Off Road winners overcome difficult starting positions

By Randy Pospishil sports@norfolkdailynews.com  NORFOLK, Neb. (July 15, 2023) – Coming from behind was the trend during Saturday night features at Off Road Speedway. Only one of the four IMCA winners began the race among the first three rows in the starting grid, while the other three started at least four rows behind the pole sitter. Making up the most ground on Saturday was Cade Richards, who travelled from the sixth row in the field of 16 cars to the front to earn his first Off Road Speedway IMCA Sunoco Late Model win plus the $250 Sunoco Race Fuels bonus. Richards survived a four-car battle for fourth to enter the top three with 14 of the 25 laps left and then, without a caution to help close the gap, still had to catch up to race leader Travis Birkley, which meant winning a duel with Alex Banks, who was also in pursuit. Richards caught and passed Banks on the inside one lap later and, using the high side of the track to gain momentum, was able [Read More]

Oliver, Barnes win again at Lee County

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (July 14, 2023) – John Oliver Jr. and Josh Barnes were both working on IMCA win streaks when the final checkers flew Friday at Lee County Speedway. Oliver, who started outside row five, worked himself into the hunt for the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car top spot by lap four and stayed close the next 10 times around the track, slipping under Derrick Agee for the runner-up spot and then going to work on Chad Krogmeier for the lead. Coming to the white flag, Oliver got under Krogmeier for the top spot and then held him off to claim his second win in a row and fourth of the season at Donnellson. Agee was third. Up next was the 15 lap Donnellson Tire & Service Sport Compact feature, with Blaine Lambert and Josh Barnes on the front row. Josh  In contrast, Barnes grabbed the lead on lap one of the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact main and set a quick pace in a feature destined to run caution-free. Barry Taft was finally able [Read More]
