DES MOINES, Iowa (Oct. 30, 2025) — Sixteen-year-old Laney Moore made the most of his first full season in a Sprint Car. Competing in the Mike Moore Motorsports/Chuck and Larry’s Transmission no. 9 Triple X, Moore claimed the 2025 RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car Rookie of the Year, the Missouri State championship, and finished runner-up in the MO/KAN Sprint Series standings while placing sixth in the final national points.
“We had an awesome year,” Moore said. “We started the year off in late April and early May, just trying to get some laps and progress each race. Before long, we were running top tens and top fives almost every weekend. We raced at 13 different tracks and even went up to South Dakota and Minnesota. Some weekends we’d be in Minnesota on Friday, then come down to Missouri for Saturday and Sunday shows — it was a lot of driving but totally worth it.”
For the 16-year-old from Iowa, this was his first full year behind the wheel of a Sprint Car after previously racing quads — a discipline that helped shape his throttle control and determination. The racing instinct clearly runs deep: Laney is a second-generation driver on the Moore side — his father Mike Moore raced for 25 years — and a fourth-generation racer on the McCarl side, with his great-grandfather Lenard McCarl being a foundational name in the family’s racing lineage. He also has a twin brother, Logan, who often served as his closest on-track competition and finished runner-up in the national rookie standings.
“It’s pretty difficult when your twin brother is the hardest driver to beat out there and rolls out of the same trailer as you,” Laney laughed.
Moore’s season took off midway through the summer, as he found rhythm and consistency across the Midwest. He earned three wins, all coming at I-35 Speedway — on May 10, July 26, and September 20 — and added nine podiums, 12 top-fives, and 26 top-tens in 32 starts. His breakout stretch from mid-August to the end of the season saw him finish tenth or better in 15 of 17 races.
“I’ve got to thank my parents for taking my brother and me racing every week, Chuck and Larry’s Transmission for supporting us all season, and MWEDT National TT Series for the support all season,” Moore said. “Also, a huge thanks to my Grandma Linda and Grandpa Jim for giving us a truck to get to the races. We wouldn’t have been able to make it to the races each week without them.”
Beyond the track, Moore balances school and business ownership. He works hard each week to prepare for competition while also running a successful business — Lil Pros Mow and Snow Services — alongside his twin brother Logan, all while attending high school.
With his Rookie of the Year title, state championship, and MO/KAN runner-up finish, Moore’s first season in a Sprint Car was anything but typical for a 16-year-old. His achievements also place him in rare company — he’s the second Iowan since Colin Smith in 2015 to win the RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car National Rookie of the Year award since it was established in 1993.
