BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 6, 2025) — Jake McBirnie of Boone scored the crown jewel of his Sunoco IMCA Stock Car career Saturday at Boone Speedway, winning the 30-circuit Stock Car Big Dance during the Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. McBirnie, who captured the Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMod main event here in 2018, added his first Stock Car Super Nationals title to his résumé.
The Class Too Tough To Tame lived up to its billing. Two-time champion Dallon Murty shot out front before Doug Smith, the 2020 Northern SportMod National champion and 2016 SportMod Super Nationals winner, paced the opening circuit. McBirnie stormed into contention in the Mike Kennedy-owned no. 822, pulling off a daring double overtake in turn three on lap 12, only for Smith to wrestle the lead back at the flag stand.
McBirnie regrouped and powered to the front on lap 15, just before misfortune sidelined both Smith and Murty with separate mechanical issues on lap 17 while they battled for second. A lap 20 caution was the last obstacle, and McBirnie checked out on the restart to cruise to the win.
2016 Southern SportMod National champion Jeffrey Abbey claimed second, with Nebraska’s Jeff Ware charging from 20th to finish third. Damon Murty ran fourth while 2013 IMCA Modified National champion William Gould of Oklahoma took fifth.
Braden Richards crossed in sixth, 2023 California State champion Troy Foulger was seventh, and Westin Abbey advanced from 21st to eighth. Three-time Kansas State champion Tathan Burkhart came home ninth, while 2021 IMCA Hobby Stock National champion Kaden Reynolds rocketed from 28th to complete the top 10.
In other Saturday action, 2025 IMCA.TV Clash On The Coast Stock Car champion Mike Vandermark Jr. of Cedar Springs, Michigan, dominated the Sunoco Race Fuels Race of Champions.
287 drivers made the trip to Iowa’s Action Track in hopes of claiming one of just 30 spots in the Big Dance field.
The event was broadcast live on IMCA TV. Catch the replay with a monthly IMCA TV Replay Subscription for $24.99/month, and don’t miss Season 2 of the Boone Docuseries, streaming exclusively on IMCA TV.
