BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 30, 2025) — A total of 157 Friesen Performance IMCA Modified drivers were on hand at Boone Speedway for the NAPA Auto Parts Double Down Prelude, where Tim Ward and Jeremy Mills picked up feature wins.

In the first 25-lapper, Jimmy Gustin and Jeff Larson went toe-to-toe early, swapping sliders until Ward charged forward from 12th. The 2023 Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s champion seized command on lap 13, and after multiple cautions, he checked out to record his fifth straight Prelude win. It was Ward’s second Razor Chassis North Central Region triumph this season, both coming at Boone.

Larson, the 2021 National champion, ran second in the P.J. Kostenbader-owned no. B1, Gustin finished third, Brandon Schmitt was fourth in the Jack Jones-provided no. 20, and Joel Rust charged from 28th to fifth.

The second feature belonged to Mills, Boone’s 2025 track champion. Mills set the early pace, then survived traffic and a late charge from 2022 Super Nationals winner Cody Laney to claim his seventh win of the season at Boone and 13th in the Razor Chassis North Central Region.

Laney settled for second, with Drew Janssen driving the Danny Meier-owned no. 127 to third. Logan Anderson, the reigning SportMod Super Nationals winner, finished fourth, and 2020 National Rookie of the Year Dakota Sproul rounded out the top five.

McBirnie and Meiners Prevail in Stock Car Action

The Sunoco IMCA Stock Cars packed Boone Speedway with 181 entries for the Double Down Prelude. Boone native Jake McBirnie and Polk City’s Austin Meiners stood tall in the pair of 25-lap features.

In the opener, Jimmy Gustin led early while pulling double duty. McBirnie reeled him in by lap nine, took over on lap 14, and never looked back. It marked McBirnie’s third Prelude win in as many divisions, his fourth EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region victory of 2025, all at Boone.

Gustin finished second with Washington’s B.J. Wild in the Dwayne Klein-owned no. 22K taking third. Josh Nichols, a California native now calling Kentucky home, grabbed fourth and Wisconsin’s Luke Lemmens, a two-time 141 Speedway champion, completed the top five.

The second feature saw Tyler Frye, the 2015 SportMod National champion, set the early pace before cautions kept the field tight. Meiners surged from eighth, capitalized when Frye slid high on lap 17, and drove away to his third Northern Region win of the season — but his first at Boone. Colorado’s Quinton Yutterman ran second, Brett Berry put the Cole Pfeifer-owned no. 10 on the podium in third, Brauner was fourth, and three-time EQ Southern Region champion Westin Abbey of Texas claimed fifth.

Bonk Dominates Sport Compacts

Hannibal, Missouri’s Dyllan Bonk continued his mastery of Boone Speedway, earning his second straight Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact Prelude victory.

Bonk took the lead early, survived a lap five caution, and pulled away to a commanding six-second advantage at the checkers. Barry Taft finished second, Johnny Thomas of Nebraska was third, reigning National and Lady Eagle champion Kaylee Richards crossed in fourth, and Tim Schnathorst completed the top five.
