ALGONA, Iowa (June 19, 2025) — Kelly Shryock has been the dominant Sunoco IMCA Stock Car driver in special feature races around Northwest Iowa early this summer. That trend continued Thursday night at Kossuth County Speedway, as the veteran driver added another win to his collection.

Shryock took the lead on the fifth circuit of the 25-lap main event and navigated through lapped traffic in the closing stages to hold off a serious challenge from Justin Luinenburg. The Stock Car Shootout win was worth $2,000 and marked Shryock’s ninth victory of the season in the EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region, and third Stock Car triumph at Algona in 2025.

Zayn Feaster and Jordan Rogotzke led the field to the green as each of the starters were guaranteed at least $200 to take the green flag. Feaster led the opening four laps before Shryock took command. Shryock and Luinenburg steadily pulled away from the field and caught lapped traffic with seven to go, setting up a cat-and-mouse game through slower cars. Luinenburg stayed close but couldn’t find a way past.

Shryock held on for the win with Luinenburg second and Kevin Opheim third.

Flat Tire Can’t Stop Luinenburg in Hobby Stocks

The 15-car Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stock main event saw Jay Sidles grab the early lead before Daniel Smith took over on lap two. Dan Hanselman and Josh Sidles joined the front-running pack, with Blake Luinenburg entering the battle by halfway.

A solo spin by Nash Palmer on lap 10 brought out a yellow, and on the restart, Luinenburg charged to the front with three to go. Despite a flat right rear tire, he limped across the line to collect his seventh B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region win of the season.

Brandon Nielsen drove from the rear of the field to take second, while Smith settled for third.

Appel Wire-to-Wire in SportMod Feature

Josh Appel led all 15 laps of the Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMod feature to score his third win of 2025 and his first at Algona this season. The only delay on his path to victory came with a caution flag with four laps to go, but Appel was untouchable on the restart.

Mike Smith finished second and Alec Fett completed the podium in third.

Volkert Flies to Sport Compact Victory from the Rear

Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts took part in a final tune-up for the upcoming $1,000-to-win Bumble Bee Nationals. Charles Prime led the first six laps before a caution reset the field.

Levi Volkert, who started at the back, charged to the front on the restart and drove off to his third win of the season, each coming at a different track. Prime finished second and points leader Brooke Osler was third. Volkert earned hard charger honors, while Osler won the lone heat race.

Shryock Doubles Up with Modified Victory

Cody Knecht set the early pace in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature, leading the first three laps before a yellow bunched the field. After another caution on lap seven, Shryock took control on the restart.

Once out front, the veteran from Fertile pulled away to collect his second Modified win of the year at Algona and third overall in 2025 in the Razor Chassis North Central Region. Nick Meyer came home second, and Knecht completed the top three.
