MAQUOKETA, Iowa (Jun. 14, 2025) — The Sunoco IMCA Late Models saw veteran racer Steve Johnson score the win and collect the Sunoco Race Fuels Bonus Money on Saturday night at Maquoketa Speedway. Johnson, who recently celebrated his 68th birthday, has been a longtime presence in Eastern Iowa racing and a staple at area tracks.

Johnson charged to the front from his third-row start and led early in the feature. Point leader Travis Denning eventually reeled him in and took over the lead, but his run ended early with a drivetrain failure. That opened the door for Johnson to retake command and race to his first victory of the 2025 campaign. Mitch Morris crossed the stripe in second while Carter Johnson delivered a strong run to finish third.

Vohringer Charges Late for Hobby Stock Thriller

The Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stocks thrilled fans with a multi-groove feature that saw drivers four-wide at times in pursuit of the lead. A late-race charge by Kile Vohringer netted the Maquoketa native his third win of the 2025 season in the B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region — all coming at his home track.

Vohringer rolled off 10th and worked his way into contention through heavy traffic. Daniel Wauters paced much of the race but had to settle for second, while Jordan Miles rounded out the top three.

Oberle Travels for First Stock Car Victory

Sheldon Oberle has made a regular habit of long hauls in 2025, traveling five and a half hours each way from Battleground, Indiana to race weekly at Maquoketa Speedway. That dedication paid off on Saturday, as Oberle scored his first Sunoco IMCA Stock Car win of the season in EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region competition.

Oberle rallied from a fifth-row starting spot to take the lead and never looked back. Austin Meiners made a long tow of his own from Polk City and finished second, while Kodey Miles ran third.

Heath Holds Off Stichter in Tight SportMod Battle

The Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMods have consistently delivered exciting races at Maquoketa Speedway in 2025, and Saturday was no exception. Levi Heath raced to his second win of the year after a side-by-side battle with Cole Stichter that lasted several laps.

Heath edged Stichter by less than a car length at the checkers to secure the win. Jarrett Franzen completed the podium with a solid third-place showing.

Mohr Switches Strategy for Modified Win

Known for his high-side prowess, Chargin’ Charlie Mohr stuck his No. 99M to the bottom groove in Saturday’s Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature — and the strategy worked to perfection.

Mohr led all 20 laps in a caution-free main event to score his third win of the season in the Razor Chassis North Central Region — all coming at Maquoketa. Shane Paris chased Mohr to the finish line for second, while Eric Barnes rallied on the cushion to grab third.

The event was broadcast live on IMCA TV affiliate Done Right TV. Catch every lap again with the IMCA TV Replay Subscription, available for just $24.99/month. And don’t miss Season 2 of the Boone Docuseries, now streaming exclusively on IMCA TV.
