LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The final IMCA Modified special of the year will pay even more to win.

First place at Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s 12th annual Duel In The Desert Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 12-14 will be worth $7,777. Qualifying for the 28-car grid will be worth a minimum of $500.

IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars return to the card at Las Vegas for the second straight year, with that winner hitting a $777 jackpot.

A record 221 Modified entries, from 21 states and four Canadian provinces, saw action on the half-mile dirt oval at last year’s Duel.

Few changes are planned in the format for the 2009 event. Heat races, “B” mains and $500 to win qualifying features are on the Modified docket during Thursday and Friday programs. Stock Car qualifying starts on Friday.

Last-chance qualifying and a dash for the Stocks start the Saturday show, followed by last-chance races to set the Modified field.

Shootouts sporting top drivers from the EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Northern Tour and Rotating Right Wild West Southern Tour will precede features for the Stocks and Modifieds.

The Modified main is also a qualifier for the 2010 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot.

Advance entry fees of $175 for Modifieds and $100 for Stock Cars are due Monday, Nov. 2; entry fees after that date are $250 for the Modifieds and $150 for the Stocks.

More information will be posted on the LVMS and IMCA websites, and published in the IMCA newsletter.

While drivers are making plans to compete at Las Vegas, two very lucky fans will get to take in the racing and sample the local night life.

Enginequest, title sponsor of the Wild West Northern Tour, will give away a trip for two, including air and ground transportation, a three-day hotel stay and tickets for the Duel In The Desert. Value of the Head To Vegas grand prize package is $1,500.

Other prizes to be given away through the online promotion include a set of two high performance EQ cylinder heads and EQ and IMCA apparel.

Entries can be made through the www.enginequest.com website or made by mail by sending a postcard to Enginequest Head To Vegas contest, c/o Raceway Media LLC, 106 Main Street, North Adams, Mass., 01247, by Oct. 31.

Contest rules are also on the Enginequest website. Prizewinners will be notified in early November.
